We highly recommend reading up on the fluece science horticultural guide if possible. They have a well researched guide on various optimum conditions for cannabis cultivation. They recommend a PPFD of 950 which makes our LED’s perfect for a large canopy.
LED technology uses 30% less energy then an HPS bulb whilst still maintaining good light quality. Also, unlike HPS, LED lighting maintains it’s efficiency over time. An HPS bulb will need to be replaced annually if it is to be used for growing. As a result, an LED light can actually cost the same to run over a 5 year period as an HPS setup irregardless of how many lights you wish to run or how many plants you wish to grow.
To run the Kokihi on a 12 – 12 light cycle for a year your annual energy costs are expected to be around $110. (assuming night rate of 16c per kwh)
This is a controversial topic. Many growers still use HPS for their grows and they too are capable of big yields. However, a recent study has helped shed some light on this discussion. Lets breakdown some of the recent research;
– Full spectrum LED lighting has shown to yield higher cannabinoid concentrations (up to 30%!)
– Plants grown under LED tend to be short, denser and bushier. Perfect for a tent setup
– Shorter wavelengths increase flavonoids. (plant color)
– Improved light diffusion ensures that most of the canopy produces quality flowers.
